Community

In this project, I was assigned to design a community in a new, hypothetical city. The site was bordered by water on the west and north, a park to the east, and a neighboring community to the south. With a boardwalk incorporated into our neighborhood, we focused on two key themes: 1. a lively, interactive street level for residents and passing pedestrians, and 2. maximizing scenic views for our residents.

I designed a pedestrian promenade with shops and restaurants to invigorate the neighborhood along with a local flea market and food trucks to support local businesses. With plenty of seating and natural options, we’ve created a welcoming community space for everyone. This space can also be utilized for seasonal events and customized for various occasions.

Location in the City
I was tasked with creating a hybrid-building that included rowhomes, apartments, and shops. We placed the rowhomes facing the promenade and arranged shops along the boardwalk to enhance the lively atmosphere.

In the southeast corner, we engage with surrounding communities, anticipating a substantial flow of pedestrian traffic. To enhance the neighborhood's appeal, we have opted to incorporate a movie theater with an eye-catching visual facade designed to attract attention from all directions. The is constructed from painted cast-in-place concrete.

For the hybrid building, we chose to create a facade that complements its location by the water. Using sandy white stone walls and wood, we achieved the desired look, which inspired us to the building "Driftwood Apartments."

This hybrid building includes six 3-bedroom townhomes, twelve 2-bedroom apartments, and two 1-bedroom apartments. The top floor is allocated for luxury condominiums, offering six exclusive units designed for discerning clients. Residents can take advantage of multiple terraces, a swimming pool, and a variety of indoor amenities crafted for their enjoyment.
